Gallery Makeover ProjectHello everyone :)
Recently my team and I worked tirelessly on a project to help improve the gallery descriptions and thumbnail examples.  While that project was indeed tedious with almost 4,000 categories in our system, it was also educational.  What I learned from sorting through thousands and thousands of categories was that we have a lot of redundancy and a lot of categories that seem to have been created on a whim that are now simply homes for junk.
Over the years, the desire to appease niche communities and people who just wanted a specific area has led to some categories that go up to 4 levels deep, and it's really no wonder it's so confusing for people to figure out where to submit their artwork.
The conclusion I've come to is simplicity.  While I'm not about to rip apart everything and make 6 stand alone categories, I do believe that there is a lot we can do to simplify the category tree.  That includes some of the following:

As the old year begins to fade into the sunset, it is customary to reflect on the passing year and make plans for the upcoming one.  Some do this in the form of resolutions, some people make action plans, some people just swing into the new year the same way they swung out of the old one :) Whatever way you intend to welcome in 2013, I hope you're surrounded by love and that you do it safely!

In my opinion, one of the greatest advantages to the New Submission Process, are the thumbnail examples and descriptions that appear when you're selecting a category.  It's no secret that we have misplaced deviations throughout the galleries and it's probably the most complained about topic I deal with on a daily basis. My team and I have been working hard to improve the descriptions and thumbnail examples for all of the galleries, and I'm happy
Gallery Makeover Project: Photography$Moonbeam13 recently posted a journal about the Gallery Makeover Project. The project talks about the changes that have already occurred within the Galleries here on deviantART. When the new 'submit' became live, it was important that all the gallery descriptions were updated and the thumbnail examples accurate. Now it's time to look at the galleries themselves!
The CV team is working alongside $Moonbeam13 to act as a port of communication for you to share what you think needs to be changed within the galleries. So, because of this, ^3wyl and I are asking you what you'd like to see changed within the Photography Galleries or whether indeed, everything should just stay the same!

REMINDER Gallery Makeover Project Journals

Greetings Deviants! 

As I have no doubt most of you have heard from $Moonbeam13's journal, a lot of the galleries here on DeviantART are having a makeover. This largely consists of merging and getting rid of categories, but please take a read of the original journal for more details. :)

I am sure a lot of you have seen these gallery makeover journals floating around already, but here is a definitive list of all the journals so far. Please note that not all galleries are on this list, more may be added later. Also some of these links may be updated in future, and we'll be sure to update the link here as neccessary. :la:

Please comment on the appropriate journals for each area if you have an opinion as to how each gallery can be updated. Remember the more opinions the better so share this journal, and lets get as much of the community involved as we can! :dummy:

Since I don't see it in that list (I'm not sure/I don't get where it went in the list), I would like to have a word about Architectural Design.
Currently, you find it under the Design & Interface section. And I think that it could be partly a problem.

That Architectural design goes together with Industrial & Product design, Theater Design and somewhat Vehicular Graphics sounds logic to me.
But it is a whole different story when those are drowned into web graphic designs that are subdivided in many categories right from the root of the folder (the main problem).
Also, I think there should be subdivisions about in the architectural design category: One for Architecture, one for Landscape & Urbanism and one for Interior.

Also I just realized that fashion looks very tiny in there...

Hi there,

Since the area you are concerned about isn't listed in there I would recommend you drop a message to $Moonbeam13 who takes gallery suggestions. :)

I'm no expert in the field being an illustrator and animator primarily, so I'm sure you know better than I do about architectural design!

What I want to know is whether or not the literature galleries will be fixed. Whenever I submit something through stash writer, since it knows it's literature, it only gives me a few choices. However it's missing some things that lit can still be! For example, I created one of those 100 theme drawing memes. Obviously it's written, but "memes" are not an option when submitting a lit file!

They're intended to be deviations for two reasons: one, in a way they are art and writing "lessons", in that the nature of them is to inspire people to draw/write more in the hopes that they improve. Secondly, they're very meme-like, just as [link] and [link] are. If I threw them in journals they'd never see the light of day.

See? There are tons of them [link] and they're all catagorized wrong =/

Ah, I see :nod: yeah, most that I see in that search would suit best in their journals though - as they're just a list to keep track of it rather than the pieces themselves like in for example [link] .
